Speaking to a television channel, Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP) compared the $3.8 billion assistance provided by India within six months with the $2.9 billion promised by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over a period of four years.
The Island newspaper quoted Dissanayake as appreciating the Indian help, "at a time when the government (of Sri Lanka) was unable to meet even the basic needs of the population".
Asserting that the situation in the country continued to deteriorate, the JVP leader warned of a fresh round of public protests against the government.
But he urged the public to desist from violence. If the public resorted to violence, the government would exploit the situation to unleash the police and the military, he warned.
The JVP carried out two failed major insurrections in 1971 and in 1987-89 to capture power, leaving thousands dead.
UNI MR。     　　加里巴巴迪表示，伊朗与阿曼之间的谅解并不意味着立即开放霍尔木兹海峡，上述通行安排为临时措施，两国后续将在30至60天内就划设一条新的永久航线展开谈判。     　　加里巴巴迪强调，如果伊朗的要求和条件得不到满足，霍尔木兹海峡将继续关闭。他表示，重开海峡的前提条件包括彻底结束黎巴嫩战线在内的所有战事、解除封锁、妥善解决也门问题，此外，美国必须全面履行其此前未能履行的所有承诺。     　　加里巴巴迪说，美国声称已清除霍尔木兹海峡水雷的说法是“宣传谎言”，伊朗将打击进入该区域的美国扫雷舰。     　　美国总统特朗普25日稍早时称，霍尔木兹海峡“国际水域”内的所有水雷均已被清除或引爆，美方对伊朗布设水雷行为实行“零容忍”政策，任何船只若布设新水雷，将立即被摧毁。
